For over 35 years my husband and I have make pots together. He is the kiln master. He charts all the firings. I am the other kind. I play in the mud. It is a good combination.Johanna DeMaynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3313799443819854406.post-41666431246490084122011-02-06T14:54:26.324-08:002011-02-06T14:54:26.324-08:00Here's that article!

I have fired many others' wood kilns, but this is different - this is MY kiln. I am filled with excitement as I prepare to develop a relationship with this creature (ok, it's not sentient, it doesn't REALLY breathe, but it has a kind of 'life' of it's own). I try not to have too many expectations as I know the journey is truly the reward.Carolanne Currierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17961257555520372038noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3313799443819854406.post-44593916615501033332011-02-05T05:51:24.867-08:002011-02-05T05:51:24.867-08:00What a relationship....it's particularly poign...What a relationship....it's particularly poignant as I prepare for my first gas kiln firing ever with this massive used kiln I bought. Sometimes I think I am insane for doing this and other times, just full of hope! I look forward to falling in love with my kiln- right now it's still lust (we haven't had an argument yet!). First firing will take place in March :)
Now, need to make the kiln goddesses~Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06084462536524346103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3313799443819854406.post-18977354370104666302011-02-05T03:54:27.461-08:002011-02-05T03:54:27.461-08:00Fire is magic, a potter turning clay into a pot wi...Fire is magic, a potter turning clay into a pot with fire is a magician.

So kiln gods and talismans (talismen?)are good.

I share a saltglaze kiln and I make the kiln god for each firing. Each time, something shows what to make. The investigating squirrel, the bold red robin, the owl hooting as we pack, and the hare for the full moon.(a particularly good firing that last one!)gzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08034777779347889773noreply@blogger.com
